Einstein's Impossible Riddle, the Answer....

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Here it is: the answer to the Impossible Riddle:

The answer is the man in the fourth house down (which is green), who uses Ubuntu on an Alienware PC, running AfterEffects CS4, who is currently searching Google.

Those of you who got it right, Kudos to you.

Einstein's Impossible Riddle, an adaptation...

My adaptation of Einstein's impossible riddle which has never been published...

1. There are five houses on a street. Each is painted a different color.
2. In each house, each person uses a different operating system.
3. Each of these people use a different Creative Suite product, have a different computer, and use a different search engine.

Question: Who uses Google?

Answer tomorrow.

Post a comment to give an answer. I will review them and tell you who has the right one.

Here is something I saw on Feeds... It may be right behind mine on the index page. Just thought I'd post it, cause I didn't realize that it was so easy.

Maple Syrup Season Opens

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
I know it's not "Adobe"e but I couldn't resist telling everyone that Maine Maple Syrup Season has officially opened. We tapped several trees today, and they were gushing. Of course, we would do more, but the impending doom of a nor-easter prevents that.
So, if you're in maine this month, come and get some delicious syrup!

Bridge Home

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
One thing that has been bugging me, Why did they kill Bridge Home?
It could have been a really good service, but they killed it. It would have made sense if they took Media Player and put it as bridge home. But they just killed it. They could have also just made it a portal to Adobe TV or the Forums. that would have made real sense.

Just a thought.

Custom Xbox 360 Faceplates

Here is a template that I used to create a custom Xbox Faceplate. Use the blue circle to cut on if you want the whole ring to be visible, and the pink one if just the button will be exposed. Enjoy!

Cocktail

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Another tool that I've found to be useful is the product form Maintain called cocktail. Cocktail is a maintenance tool for Mac OS X Leopard and Tiger. It cleans caches, logs, runs cron scripts, etc. I found it to be really helpful with keeping my computer running faster. It can also enable some interface options not available through the System Preferences panel in Mac OS X. If you can, you should really get it.

Acrobat.com Reviews: Part 4

Here it is: Part 4 of my Acrobat.com reviews.

I will talk about ConnectNow.
I think that connectnow is really a great service. It has all the features that you really need for a meeting. It even allows you to control another computer through screen share. I have a connect pro account that I use more frequently, because I usually meet with more than three people. The only thing with ConnectNow it that content doesn't persist after the meeting has ended. I do suppose, though, that it is free, and I really can't complain.

First off, I live in New England, where there is snow. Lots of it. A place near me has snow tubing. We went today, and it was one of the most fun things that I have done in a while. However, you don't want to fall off of your tube at high speed on the ungroomed part without gloves. I did, and cut up the back of my hands and face on it. I, according to the rest of the people who were with me, did a few summersaults and landed on my face. I ended up biting my lip, and drawing some blood. I do have to say, though, that the inherent risk of tubing does not outweigh the risk of epic lulz.

Techtool Pro 4

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
I just ran a surface scan on my computer with Techtool. that is why I haven't blogged for a day; it was still running. If you have techtool, Run it. It may not free up space, but it will optimize the drive and squeeze all of the available power out of it. Your computer will run faster with an optimized drive.

Poll Position

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
I got this neat plugin for Moveable Type called Poll Position. It's supposed to be able to display a poll and results, but nowhere can I find the actual code example to embed it in an entry. Maybe I'm just stupid and it's right in front of me or it doesn't exist. I just don't know. I hope I can find it.

Just a thought.

Weekly LOL

Photoshop Useless Functions

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
You know, I think that the 3D functions in Photoshop CS4 are really dumb. I mean, who needs to make a 3D cowboy hat or a wine bottle? It was probably one of those, "We can do this, so lets put it in" features.
Also, the 3D accelerator for Photoshop requires NVIDIA graphics. However, only NEW graphics work. My Powerbook G4 or Macbook Black do not allow photoshop graphics to work, even though the Powerbook has a good graphics card. I don't see why they didn't just modify the Acrobat 3D engine to do what they wanted to do. It runs on any computer that can run Acrobat.

Just a thought.

Acrobat.com Reviews: Part 3

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Here is part 3 of my Acrobat.com reviews.

While using Acrobat.com, the function that allows you to preview files I believe is stupid. It could be used to do so much more than it does, it could look at SWF's, .indd files, .psd files etc. Not just the PDF and image. That is dumb. They could also make it to have more of the functionality that Reader has when you view a PDF. that would make it so much better.

Just a thought.

Animal Farm LegoMation

Well, here it is. The animation marvel that is the Animal Farm Pigs' Path to Power!!!
Note: As I am posting this, the video has not finished processing. Please wait.....

Hey, this may seem kind of random, but yesterday I found a Sega Genesis while digging around in my barn. Pretty Sweet, eh? Well, I don't know whether or not it works yet, but I'll find out. My only wish now is that I had an N64 and a Super NES to fill up my ancient game collection. I think I'll put this genesis next to my Original XBox and PS1800px-Sega_Genesis_original_model.jpg

Adobe Media Encoder

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Media Encoder has really improved over the past version. Flash Media Encoder CS3 could only generate FLV's. Media Encoder CS4 can generate anything from H.264 to F4V to M4V. Hey, it event has a Youtube button in it. Pretty Sweet, eh?
And, to sweeten things up, the whole interface is AIR based, so it makes it all the more better.

Gorham Middle School Spelling Bee

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
So today, I was in the Gorham Middle School Spelling Bee. I failed on the easiest word in the whole thing, RECEIPT!!! I felt so dumb; I spelled it reciept. And, no, I didn't remember the phrase, "I before E except after C", even though receipt has a big honkin' C in the middle of it.
Oh well, there is always next year.

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Bug

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
While creating a form on an Intel mac with Acrobat, I've found that it sucks up ALL of your available processing space. I have no idea why; on my Power PC it doesn't do that. Again, no idea why.

Lego Stop Motion Animation

So, in school, we are reading George Orwell's Animal Farm. I already finished, and thought that it wasn't half bad. For my project, I am animating the Pigs' Path to Power in LEGO STOP MOTION ANIMATION!!!! It will be AWESOME!!!!!!
On Saturday, I will post the entire video for you all to see.

LOL to come tomorrow.

Acrobat.com Reviews: Part 2

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Here is my Acrobat.com Review, in it's Part two glory.
So here it is: Share Bugs.

In Acrobat.com Share, I have encountered a few bugs. One is that if you upload a file, you cannot see the upload progress. This is due to the fact that the little circle thing in the corner doesn't always show it when you mouse over; sometimes the window that pops up has no text in it. Also, it would be nice if there was a real bonafide progress bar to show how much is uploaded.
It would also be nice if the desktop edition contained the entire Acrobat.com, like Buzzword and the ConnectNow addin. I know it can be done, I could do it myself, given the source code.

Next week, ConnectNow.

Torah Torah Torah...

Well, I didn't screw up too badly. I got all of the words right, and didn't make any mistakes. I did read pretty slowly, though. No-one seemed to mind. Not bad, eh?!

Torah Torah...

Today, I'm supposed to read the torah. I feel terrible because I have a head cold, and I can't talk well. I really hope everything works out, for my sanity's sake. I'll tell you how it goes later today....

Adobe AIR Forums

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks
Contrary to what I said about the Flex forum, the AIR forum has gotten me some good help. I post on the AIR forum and it doesn't get buried in posts for at least a week. That is how long it stays on the front page. I get a lot of answers from it. I've found that the people on it know some about Flex and lots about native events in AIR. I always get a response from it.
Adobe AIR forum. Use it.

Troubles With Photoshop 3D

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
I have an old Powerbook G4. It does have a pretty good graphics card, on my standards, and seems to be able to play games and run 3D okay. Except for Photoshop. Adobe went and made a brand new 3D engine for Photoshop, which requires High Power Nvidia graphics. I think they should have modified the Acrobat 3D engine, which works on any computer, to suit their needs. I don't know why they didn't. It would have fixed any compatibility problems.
Just a thought.

Acrobat.com Reviews: Part 1

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
I decided to do a review of Acrobat.com. I really like the service, and you should use it too.

Part 1: Buzzword
Buzzword is a service that I use frequently. It is great for transporting documents, if you don't want to carry around a thumb drive everywhere. I am still a student, and use it for my school work. I haven't encountered a single problem with the service itself, though it doesn't work if the internet is too slow. Otherwise, it's great. I have over 150 documents on it and haven't lost a single one. Thanks Adobe for another great product.

More to come next week.

You know, these national surveys are really pointless. Today, in class, we only had 8 people because of one of these. This NAEP test, or something like that, has taken our class away. So now, we (all 8 of us) are just chillin', getting nothing accomplished for two periods. Thanks again, National Center of Education Statistics (or whatever your name is).

Huge Dreamweaver CS4 Bug

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
I have found that in Dreamweaver CS4 the insert/update record wizard is screwey. When you make an update or insert form, the form ends up way at the bottom of the page. I have no idea why this is, but there is no way to fix it. Adobe, help us out!

Bug Report for Today

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
In Flex 3, I have found a minor bug. If you put an image component into a data grid, you encounter some problems. Like the fact that the images don't load unless you scroll to the bottom of the data grid. If you can't scroll, no images. So, I found you should use a Title, Horizontal or Vertical List for image display.

Weekly LOL

Google Mapping Component

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
While browsing the previously discussed Adobe Forums, I found an example for a google mapping component for flex. Here is the link.  http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=60&catid=585&threadid=1421450

I haven't looked into the API's for Google Maps. If anyone does, Comment to let me know.

Adobe Forums....Ummm.....

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
The forums on Adobe.com are helpful in some cases. They only are really helpful if you stay on for 2 hours and monitor all of the replies to your post. For instance...
I as a question on the Flex forum and then go to bed at night. I wake up in the morning with one reply that is something like: "So, what does the data structure look like?". By this time, my post is buried in 200 posts, and this is in the span of twelve hours. So, if you monitor it, it is a great resource. Otherwise, good luck.

NOTE: Make your posts interesting. Then you may get 2 useful replies.
ALSO: The newsgroup user Amy Blankenship has helped me a lot. If she is reading this, Thanks for all your help.

Total Training a Huge Help

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Even though I am only a budding Flex developer, I have found a couple resources to be useful. One is free, and is the Adobe Flex in a Week training online. This is great if you are one of those fast paced people. Not for me. Another is the Total Training for Flex 2 and 3. They are slower paced, and pack more information in to the training. There are 2 for Flex 2 at least, Rich Internet Applications and Advanced Visual Programming. The first one is more basic, and the second one is longer and more in depth. Hence the "Advanced".

Welcome to the World of Arthur Lockman's Flex!
