Adobe CS5 Popular Products.jpegAs you all know, I have been making some tutorials recently for some of the new Creative Suite 5 products. Well, as you can imagine, I am soon going to run out of ideas for tutorials! So I ask you this. Give me any and all suggestions for tutorials to make about the up and coming Creative Suite 5. Anything is acceptable. So leave me some comments, or shoot me an email, or drop me a mention on twitter and let me know what you want to see.

iPhone 4G? I think not.

500x_iphone6.jpgBy now, everyone has seen what Gizmodo claims to be the next generation iPhone. Besides obvious reasons (not booting) there is one other reason that I personally think that this is not in fact the next iPhone. That being that the thing is not a unibody machine. Think about it. Every apple product now is a unibody product. The macbooks, the iMacs, the Mac Pros, even the iPhone 3G and 3GS are mostly unibody. There aren't any breaks in the case like there are in the phone that Gizmodo claims to have. To me, this new "iPhone" seems to be to klunky to be an iPhone as well. It is not shaped well, and doesn't fit into a person's hand that well. Apple and their human interface obsession would never release a product that looks like this. It would have to be more streamlined for me to believe that it was the real deal. As for everyone else, it's up to them to decide for themselves whether it's real or not.

What the.jpgUpon booting Parallels desktop this morning, I found an interesting option in the file menu. Download Chrome OS. I promptly hit the button, and the downloading began. It hasn't finished as of right now, but when it does I'll post about it's performance and stuff. I thought this was interesting that it would be built into parallels.

CS5 - Should you upgrade?

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Adobe-CS5-popular-products.jpgThere's been a lot of talk going around as to whether or not to upgrade to Creative Suite 5. As an Adobe fanboy, and a person who already has their hands on most of the suite, I have one thing to say to this.

Oh hell yes.

I'd also like to say that I will answer any questions you have about the Photoshop, Illustrator, of Flash Catalyst if you leave me a comment or send me an email. I'll check here often, so ask away!

New MacBook Pros! Finally...

Nearly a year after the last update to the MacBook Pro family, we finally see an update today that adds the new Intel Core i7 and i5 chips in them. This is supposed to bring an extreme performance boost to the family. However, Apple didn't put the new chips in the 13-inch MacBook pros. Only the bigger ones. I guess if I get one, I'll be getting the 15-incher.

Apple vs. Adobe - The Battle over 3.3.1

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
n113492765344092_7540.jpgBy now, I'm sure everyone has seen or at least heard of the language in the iPhone SDK 4.0 agreement that appears to make developing an iPhone or iPad application in anything other than XCode a violation of terms. This obviously has sparked much harsh debate over development in things other than Xcode. Several different platforms such as Titanium Developer, PhoneGap, and even the upcoming Flash CS5 will also have iPhone development built into it. Well, what could apple possibly be trying to do here? Shut down all development outside of XCode? Well, obviously they are. But to what end? That's what a lot of people are asking right now. When asked about it in a dialogue with Greg Slepak of the Tao Effect, Uncle Steve said that they inserted this clause into the developer agreement because:

"intermediate layers between the platform and the developer ultimately produces sub-standard apps and hinders the progress of the platform"

I'd like to ask this of Steve. What apps are you talking about? Show me one application built on something other than Xcode that "hinders the progress of the platform". If this is really the case, then apps like Firefox and Chrome hinder the progress of the Mac platform. Obviously they don't; rather they aid it in it's progress. And I'd also like to see one sub par iPhone app that has been accepted into the app store that was built in a different environment. Especially some of the ones built on Flash. I'd like to see some of those that can be proven by Apple to be "sub par". I don't think they can find one. Show me one Steve, and I might believe you. Otherwise, I'm definitely with Adobe.

The Magic Mouse - Not so "magical" after all

Today, a magic mouse happened to move into our house, so I just felt compelled to tell you all what I thought about it. First of all, it is very sleek. It has a low profile, which I don't really like, because you can't rest your hand on it like you can with the mighty mouse. Another major problem that comes along with it is that the surface that is supposed to be multitouch-able is really not good for that because it does not allow your fingers to slide on it. They stick, making it very hard to perform any sort of gesture with more than one finger. Along with this surface problem, many features don't exist for this mouse if you aren't running Snow Leopard. Such as any configuration tools, momentum scrolling, and other things you'd expect out of a magic mouse. If you are running snow leopard, many things become available however. You can install things such as MouseWizard which gives you access to most if not all multi touch gestures that you'd expect out of a regular trackpad on a mac. These do not come with the mouse, but can be accessed by installing that great $5 piece of software. The mouse is also really light. I'm not sure that I like that or not, as I am used to the weight of the Mighty Mouse and like it better. Another thing that I really don't like about it is that if you are going to perform any sort of gesture, like two finger or three finger swipes, you have to hold the thing really awkwardly which almost hurts your hand to do. I'd much rather have a multi-touch pad than try to do gestures on this thing. In the end, I'll stick with my Mighty Mouse.

All for Now!

Correction: An update is available to enable the Magic Mouse special features of Leopard. I spoke too soon.

iPad - Why I Won't be Getting One

Yesterday, as everyone already knows, the iPad came out, to the excitement of millions of people. Now, I'll agree that this device is revolutionary, although I haven't actually laid my hands on one just yet. I decided not to go to the Apple store yesterday to try one out, despite my geek urges to touch the new Apple gadget. I also decided that in this first round of iPad releases, I won't be getting one. For one thing, this fingerprint resistant coating that is supposed to be on the iPad has been reported to be not fingerprint resistant. Also, I do not believe that I will be able to charge the thing on my early MacBook, because the USB ports may not be powered enough. I still think that this is a big mistake by Apple, as the majority of their users are still using these older Macs which may not be able to charge these devices. If I were to be planning to buy one, I would definitely be waiting for the 3G one anyways. And that's not supposed to ship for a while, so there's a major roadblock for me. It also has no camera, which I really want to see in this device. Until then, I probably won't be buying one. I expect a camera in the next iteration of the iPad, so then I may get one. We'll just have to wait and see.
